The Gormley Package at the Ace Hotel

The Ace is only a couple blocks from Madison Square Park, and in the middle of the neighborhood-wide Antony Gormley Event Horizon sculpture exhibition. The hotel itself is full of art from local artists so it’s a neat place to stay.

In celebration of the exhibit, the Ace Hotel has a special package, “The Gormley,” during The Event Horizon Installation.

Book the Gormley Package and you will get a free upgrade (based on availability), the official Time Out/Event Horizon city guide, a disposable camera that the Hotel will have developed for you (for participating in the Gormley Photo Contest) and an official Event Horizon t-shirt.

The package is valid for stays from March 26 – August 15, 2010.

Book online using promo code EVENTHORIZON here or call 212.679.2222.

Work Progress on the Flatiron Hotel

The ground floors of 1141 Broadway were boarded up on Friday, March 19 to work on the lower levels / entrance of the Flatiron Hotel on 26th and Broadway.

We are looking forward to their opening – which as of today was quoted as “hopefully May 2010!”

For details on what to expect from this fabulous addition to the neighborhood, here’s information from their August 2009 press release.

The new Flatiron Hotel (flatironhotel.com) will bring sophisticated rooms and classic amenities to the trendy Flatiron neighborhood when it opens this fall. The 64-room hotel sits on Broadway and 26th Street, with rooms facing the Empire State Building and Broadway.

Once a popular area for photographers and toy manufacturers, the Flatiron District has become known for housing advertising agencies and publishers, computer and internet start-up companies, and trendy restaurants and shops. The infamous Flatiron Building – for whom the hotel is named, is one of the City’s original skyscrapers.

“The Flatiron Hotel is within walking distance of the Empire State Building and Madison Square Garden. It’s in the center of all the action – right in the heart of Chelsea,” according to Bob Handler, Lead Project Manager of the Flatiron Hotel. “Guests from all around the world are looking to experience New York and all it has to offer. In the Flatiron District, there are fantastic restaurants, famous bars and the rich history of New York all in one neighborhood. Between our location on Broadway, our brand new rooms, multi-lingual staff, and Chelsea right outside our front door, we will offer the ultimate New York experience.”

The property will include 64 guestrooms, a rooftop bar, full-service restaurant, a fitness center and even a two-story fish tank in the lobby. The guestroom décor will be reminiscent of the finest hotel rooms. With Venetian walls, platform beds, luxurious linens, mechanized drapes, wall-mounted flat screen plasma televisions, and even a television embedded in the bathroom mirror, guests will have the latest technology at their fingertips while being surrounded by luxury at every turn.

The property is managed by Meyer Jabara Hotels. Meyer Jabara Hotels is an award-winning hospitality company owning and operating hotel in thirteen states. Their portfolio of hotels includes Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn brands as well as several independent hotels. For over 25 years, Meyer Jabara Hotel s has distinguished itself as an employer of choice within the hospitality industry by creating a culture where associates are encouraged to reach their fullest potential and customers receive unique offerings. Each property features a unique destination experience, an experience that differentiates a Meyer Jabara Hotel from the competition by engaging the guest in experiences which support the geographic region. The destination experience themes and story lines emphasize and blend unique aspects of property amenities, location, and associate talent that transform an ordinary hotel stay into a special memory worth repeating.
