Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – Marching Bands 2012

This Thanksgiving, drummers, dancers and twirlers will shine side-by-side as the best high school and university bands and the nation’s top performance groups dazzle the crowd at the 86th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®. More than 3.5 million spectators and 50 million viewers nationwide will watch as they strut their way into the holiday season, bringing the Magic of Macy’s along for the ride.

Holiday hoedowners and rockin’ reindeer from talented performance groups will wow spectators as multitalented brass, woodwind, strings, percussion players and dancers representing all 50 states pump up the crowds. In addition to being an entertaining spectacle, these performances showcase a diversity of creative talent that truly represents the very best of local communities. From Bronx basketball players on unicycles and ragin’ Cajun drummers hailing from Louisiana to the beat of international drums, audiences are in for the ultimate showcase of rhythm, music and soul-stirring entertainment.

For the marching bands, their Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade journey began more than 18 months ago, when band members were surprised at their schools with an invite to participate in the 2012 Parade by the Macy’s Parade Band Committee. Selection into the Macy’s Parade was based on submitted videos of past performances, awards, national recognition, letters of recommendation and of course, each band’s unique personality to captivate an audience. As confetti filled the air and cheers of delight echoed throughout the auditorium, each group took their invite to perform in the Macy’s Parade as a pinnacle in their performing career.

For the past year, these bands and performance groups have perfected their exclusive acts, which they are set to showcase in front of family, friends and of course millions of viewers nationwide. Ahead of their New York City debuts, to help fund their big trip the bands and performance groups engaged in unique fundraising efforts. From selling locally grown citrus fruits to raising 10-foot tall flag poles in the front yards of supporters, the groups went above and beyond to raise the necessary funds for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
